Get the Airbnb sign-up text on a number you do not have to share.
Airbnb asks for a phone number when you create an account. It texts a code to confirm it, and later it uses the number to contact you about bookings. Guests and hosts both use it, and it matters most when a booking is on.

How Airbnb uses the number
Airbnb sends booking confirmations, check-in notes and reminders by SMS if you allow it. Hosts can also reach you by phone in an urgent case. For that reason, you should be careful about a rented number on an account that has real trips.
If you are a guest on a real trip, a number you will still own on the day of check-in is the safe choice. A rented number is better for early steps, like exploring or testing the sign-up flow.
Account safety
Airbnb may ask you to verify by SMS again when you log in from a new place or device. If the rented number is gone, use the email option and update the phone number in your account settings as soon as you can.
Airbnb also asks for ID in some cases, for hosts and guests. That check is about you, and it is separate from the code.
What can go wrong
Airbnb can refuse a number it sees as risky or already used on another account. If that happens, cancel after two minutes and try a different number or country.
We cannot promise that Airbnb will accept a given number. Do not use rented numbers for booking fraud or fake listings. That is against their rules and ours.
Price and refunds
Prices vary, typically a few cents to under a dollar depending on country. Codes usually arrive within a minute.
